American Icons

I recently had the pleasure to spend over 30 days as an Artist-In-Residence with the National Parks Service.

I went with a few ideas of what I wanted to photograph, and some more ideas on how I wanted to photograph those ideas. I did not want to do the same type of documentary landscape type work I had seen from a number of other photographs.

After several weeks struggling to photograph in a unique way I happened upon a 3 hour window that defined my entire time there. I was so captured by this event before me. After returning back to my cabin to see the results I was captured by what I saw. Presenting this event to the NPS they too agreed with the results. We are now in the process of drafting a long term project based on the result.

Without going into great detail at this point about the project I can tell you that it reflects 3 of the most unique American Icons all rolled into one. Those three are the National Parks Concept, the America Cowboy, and the America Bison.
